The Return of Tony Montana?
When we last saw Cuban exile and Miami gangster Tony Montana, his cocaine-fueled body was riddled with bullets in the 1983 Brian DePalma cinematic classic, Scarface. Now, IDW Publishing is reviving Tony Montana, in the sequel to the end-all-be-all of gangster movies, with an all-new graphic novel - Scarface: Scarred for Life - available in bookstores and comic stores in July.
The blood-soaked tale picks up where the movie left off, as Tony Montana survives - yes, you read that right - but just barely. Having lost almost everything - including, of course, very nearly his life - Tony must once again claw his way to the top of the sun-drenched Florida underworld. If the chips were piled against the gangster before, he now stands in the shadow of odds stacked twice as high.
"The story is indeed over-the-top, and it is funnier and more darkly comic than the movie," says John Layman, the writer of the series. "Times have changed since the movie. And what was shocking in 1983 is a little more commonplace today. So you're going to see some very creative murders - and if you have any sort of decency in your soul, you're going to feel bad for laughing as hard as you do when you read this stuff."
In addition, this July, Montana fans can also now enjoy the original screenplay, unedited and presented in its entirety. Timed to coincide with the release of Scarred for Life, IDW will publish a 6" x 9" version of Oliver Stone's original movie script with Scarface: The Movie Scriptbook - the first time it has been published. This is the ultimate companion to sequel and the best way to relive the epic 1980s movie staple of greed, success and excess. The scriptbook will be available in mid-July, the same month IDW will also release the first issue of a comic book prequel series entitled Scarface: Devil In Disguise.
Prequels, sequels or scripts…anything a Scarface fan can want, all available in July!
