I just got home from going to a special Academy Award screening of The Departed at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences screening room in Beverly Hills and all I've got to say is if legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese doesn't walk away with a golden statuette, this year, for Best Director I'll really get pissed off.
The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg and it tells the story of two men from opposite sides of the law who are undercover within the Massachusetts State Police and the Irish mafia. Violence and bloodshed boil when discoveries are made, and the moles are dispatched to find out their enemy's identities.
It received six Golden Globe nominations (Scorsese won for Best Director) and five Oscar nominations this year including Best Picture, Best Director (Martin Scorsese), Best Supporting Actor (Mark Wahlberg), Best Adapted Screenplay (William Monahan) and Best Film Editing (Thelma Schoonmaker).
If you haven't seen it yet make sure you do. It will be released on DVD on February 13.
Hopefully, this will be the year Marty walks away with the big prize.

Last week, I asked you guys who you thought should be cast in the title roles of ABC's new dramatic series Mr. & Mrs Smith - based on the action film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Here are the picks you sent.... Cara Bruno and Michael Vartan Charisma Carpenter and Chris Carmack Mia Kirshner and Marc Paul Gosselaar Gina Philips and Justin Hartley
Unfortunately, the show's casting directors didn't select any of them. It was announced, this week, that sexy Jordana Brewster (The Faculty & The Fast and The Furious) and hunky Martin Henderson (Smokin' Aces & The Ring) were cast in the roles.
Oh well...they were all good selections, but in Hollywood you can't win 'em all.

Remember when "Queen of the Fag Hags," Kathy Griffin, use to do the Oscars? Well now she's hosting the GayVN Awards (the gay porn awards) in San Francisco, at The Castro Theater , on February 24, 2007!
Griffin is probably best known for her four-year stint on the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan as Vickie Groener, Brooke Shields' acerbic colleague. She has supplied voices for characters in several animated series, including Dilbert and The Simpsons, and had a dual role on the X Files TV series. Just when you thought you'd never see him on primetime TV again...ABC has cast former teen hearthrob Donny Osmond (remember that cheesy variety show he had with his little sis Marie back in the 1970's? Yeah..I know, I know...I'm dating myself) to host its newest reality series, The Great American Dream Vote.

Here's my latest published article in the new issue of Frontiers Magazine. Enjoy!
The fabulous Varla Jean Merman (Jeffery Roberson) is bringing his hilarious one man...ahem...woman show - named "Anatomically Incorrect" - to Ultra Suede, in West Hollywood, until February 22nd!
Loosely based on an exploration of the relationship between the body as a whole and its parts, the show travels raucously through a seemingly random medley of songs, chats, video skits and costume changes, which somehow coalesce to suggest that all the parts that shape us as humans, whether those be cantankerous organs, identities or identifications, matter little when compared to the human whole.
The show, which is sponsored by Manhunt.net, is directed by Michael Schiralli and plays every Tuesday and Thursday at 8PM. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased HERE. FYI - the club has a two-drink minimum, so drink up while you're there.
Enjoy! I sure will.
